10 Reasons Why YOU Should Open a Micropub
1. Changing the face of the High Street
Play your part in the biggest shake up of the retail drinks industry. Traditional pubs might be on the decline but the growth of the micropub movement is soaring. It’s only going one way and currently there are 1743 members and 267 micropubs registered with the Micropub Association.
2. Become your own boss
You get to make all the decisions including when you open up. A large number of micropubs don’t open on Monday to make up for the fact that they have opened on Saturday and a number of micropubs close their doors in the evening at 10pm.
3. Take the dog out for a bag of crisps
Most micropubs don’t serve hot food, but instead dabble in traditional pub snacks. That means the dog can come along and enjoy a picked onion, bag of nuts or even a pork scratching.
4. Become a local Wolf of Wall Street
It’s a great business model, with low set up costs and a pretty good profit margin. Overheads can be kept low if you select your premises carefully and usually you’re the only person you have to manage. You decide.
5. Creating a real sense of community
With emphasis on conversation, the banter flows freely and people actually talk to each other.
6. The invisible hand
Adam Smith would be proud with the growth of micropubs leading to a growth of microbreweries. The growth of the brewers is a win for choice, diversity, competition and innovation.
7. Power down and escape that screen
Whether it’s a phone, TV or IPad, many micropubs have banned electronic entertainment in the true spirit of the Micropub Association definition.
8. Meet an Archbishop
Yes, the Archbishop of Canterbury is a huge fan of micropubs but you’ll meet all sorts. It’s also always a great place to find a plumber, electrician and roofer.
9. Go directly to Jail and don’t pass Go!
Take part in the National Board Games Championship (Hasbro, Pork Farms and Micropub Association partnership) which was hosted by a huge number of micropubs this year.
10. Take the initiative
If you don’t open a micropub in your town, somebody else will. What are you waiting for? If you need any help there are currently over 4,000 posts on the Micropub Association forum. Many micropub owners will also offer training if you need hands-on experience.
